In the morning Adam & John,

Quick update on the Roku channel.

Just released new version of the channel - it should be available in all new Roku countries - Canada, UK, Ireland.

Main improvement that it remembers last play positions and fast forward and rewind buttons are now functional ;)

This sounds simple but Roku's API doesn't have this functionality for audio playback, i had to hack it up with HTTP headers.

Also, NA Roku app is currently installed on over 28 000 Roku devises, so you definitely have more listeners than pooper.

Channel can be found in "Top Rated" or "News" categories in the Roku channel store.

Hey guys, In The Morning

Two things...

1 - and (sent Adam email on the background of that one) both re-directed to

2 - I'm a little behind on listening to the show so just heard about the 35' trailer... Sounds great. Let me know how I can help... I want to meet up at some point but I'm not on Facebook (because it's evil) so would love if you could email a schedule once you have it... I'll fly in somewhere... Also speaking of FB if you need a deconstruction of the market structure disaster the IPO was I'm intimately aware

Hope all is well,

Sir R Daniels

Food Deserts

When I lived in niamey I lived in the desert, and they had food. Seriously, it was interesting - the stores would go through waves of outages, things like butter milk mustard chocolate - random things - would disappear off of the shelves, reappearing months later. One had to stock up and build a network of shoppers to find things. The embassy crowd could buy things at walmart and amazon and have them 'pouched' - at taxpayer expense. Talk about a bubble ...

Sorry, a little behind on podcasts. Hope to catch up today.

Itm from dar es salaam tanzania,

From Pete The Teacher

Hi Adam,

I just wanted to share this with you guys. The forwarded message from the UFT about cyber-bullying. It includes a survey which we are encouraged to give to NYC school students from 3RD grade up, and contains some weird questions like asking kids to choose which KIND OF LAW they would write if they were in power.

Im no expert but I think this email and survey count as bullying. I, for one feel like I am being pressured by the big guys to keep propagating the bullying meme, and its making me feel small and worthless :( Help me No Agenda!

Keep up the great work man and congrats on your engagement,

Pete The Teacher

Letter from UFoT President

Dear teachers and guidance counselors,

We all know that bullying is a scourge in our schools that educators must confront effectively. Bullying hurts the atmosphere of an entire school and disrupts the learning environment. Both kids who are bullied and kids who bully face significant health and academic risks as a result. Kids who are bullied have lower GPAs and test scores and are more likely to drop out of school. They are more prone to depression, anxiety, suicidal inclinations and physical health problems. Those who bully others, meanwhile, are also more likely to drop out of school, and they face higher risks of developing substance abuse problems, becoming domestic abusers and ending up with a criminal record.

With the advent of the Internet and social networks, bullying has migrated to cyberspace. To get a handle on the scope of the problem and its repercussions on our students, we are sending you the New York Cyberbully Census, a 12-question survey for students in Grades 3 to 12 across New York State that is designed to gauge their attitudes and experiences with cyberbullying. The survey is voluntary and anonymous so students can answer the questions honestly and without fear of embarrassment. Since the survey’s inception, more than 4,000 responses have been received.

This data-gathering initiative, the first of its kind in the state, should provide a fuller picture of cyberbullying in New York State. We hope that the survey results will not only lead to responsible protections being enacted to help children who are victims of cyberbullying, but will also allow educators, parents and elected officials to get a better sense of what children need to make them feel safe in this Internet age.

Please encourage your students to fill out the survey at

German bank tables plan for parallel Greek euro called "geuro" | Set You Free News

Germany's financial giant Deutsche Bank has floated the idea of a "geuro" -- a parallel currency allowing Greece to devaluate while staying in the eurozone if an anti-bail-out government takes over in Athens.

The “geuro” would consist of promissory notes, a form of government debt that can be sold on. It would devaluate sharply against the euro but would allow the government to buy itself some more time to carry out reforms and pass budget cuts.

Hawaii sends Arizona verification of Obama's birth

A Hawaii official sent Bennett's office verification of birth for President Obama on Tuesday, according to both Bennett and Hawaii officials. Bennett said the issue is now resolved from his point of view. He has cancelled a planned Wednesday news conference where he was expected to discuss the issue. "I'm happy that we got what we asked for and that's what I was expecting all along," Bennett said Tuesday night.

On Tuesday Joshua A. Wisch, special assistant to the attorney general in Hawaii, said the matter had been resolved.

"We have received information from Secretary Bennett that satisfied our requirement and has therefore provided his office with a verification of birth for President Obama," Wisch wrote in an email.

Remarks at the Special Operations Command Gala Dinner

When I served on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I was impressed by the Pentagon's Quadrennial Defense Reviews, called the QDR, which guided plans and priorities every four years. So when I became Secretary of State, I launched the first-ever Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, and we call it the QDDR. Through it, we are overhauling the State Department and USAID to become more operational, more strategic in our use of resources and personnel, more expeditionary, and more focused on transnational threats. Let me highlight a few examples. As part of the QDDR, we created a new Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations that is working to put into practice lessons learned over the past decade and institutionalize a civilian surge capacity to deal with crises and hotspots.

Here’s another example. We know we need to do a better job contesting the online space, media websites and forums where al-Qaida and its affiliates spread their propaganda and recruit followers. So at the State Department, we’ve launched a new interagency Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications. It’s housed at the State Department, but it draws on experts from the intelligence community and the Defense Department, including Special Operations Forces.

The nerve center in Washington is linking up to military and civilian teams around the world and serving as a force multiplier for our embassies’ communications efforts. Together, we are working to pre-empt, discredit, and outmaneuver extremist propagandists. A digital outreach team of tech savvy specialists – fluent in Urdu, Arabic, Somali – is already patrolling the web and using social media and other tools to expose the inherent contradictions in al-Qaida’s propaganda and also bring to light the abuses committed by al-Qaida, particularly the continuing brutal attacks on Muslim civilians.

For example, a couple of weeks ago, al-Qaida’s affiliate in Yemen began an advertising campaign on key tribal web sites bragging about killing Americans and trying to recruit new supporters. Within 48 hours, our team plastered the same sites with altered versions of the ads that showed the toll al-Qaida attacks have taken on the Yemeni people. And we can tell that our efforts are starting to have an impact, because we monitor the extremists venting their frustration and asking their supporters not to believe everything they read on the Internet. (Applause.)

Now, this kind of ideological battle is slow and incremental, but I think it’s critical to our efforts, because what sustains al-Qaida and its terrorist affiliates is the steady flow of new recruits. They replace the terrorists you kill or capture so that they can plan new attacks. This is not about winning a popularity contest, but it is a simple fact that achieving our objectives is easier with more friends and fewer enemies. And I believe passionately that the truth is our friend. Exposing the lies and evil that rests at the heart of the terrorist narrative is absolutely to our advantage.

Now, we’ve also changed the way we do business on the civilian side to be better partners to you in the military. As part of our reorganization, we’ve created a full Counterterrorism Bureau at the State Department that is spearheading a diplomatic campaign around the world to increase local capacity of governments and to deny terrorists the space and financing they need to plan and carry out attacks.

MODERATOR: Ladies and gentlemen, the commander will now present our guest of honor with a token of our appreciation.

ADM MCRAVEN: Madam Secretary, a small token of our appreciation for joining us here tonight. This is, as you quickly noted, our version of Excalibur, the sword and the stone. And of course, as legend has it, only the wisest and the bravest can pull the sword from the stone. My guess is it will come out easily in your hand. So thank you very much, ma’am, for joining us here tonight. Thank you very much.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Thank you so much, Admiral. (Applause.)

Feedback from a Drone Ops

I just listened to you on TWiT. Awesome show but... I am a drone pilot and I really think we have a bad rap in your eyes. The mainstream media only shows one side of the story. Crying villagers claiming a drone blew up their children, have you thought that these scenes could be anti-American propaganda? I am by no means claiming complete innocence, nor can I speak on be half of such innocence. However, weapons aren't used unless we know its a valid target. We are human I will not deny that fact. I don't want to go into too much detail about what I do and I can't speak to many things that drones are used for but in my experience drones have been a life saver. I have personally been at the controls that have directly saved several lives from enemy actions. I have also been that guy on the ground who's life was saved by a drone. The drone is only a tool, how people choose to use it makes it good or evil. Just like the gun you pulled on the episode it in of itself is not evil, in the right hands it will do good in this world, in the wrong hands it will cause great pain and suffering. I believe that for the most part drones will have a good impact in the world at large. From things like scientific data collection, forest fire monitoring, police coverage, search and rescue where other people cant get on the ground. Did you know that drones were on standby to launch during Katrina to assist in Search and Rescue? Granted the airspace couldn't be cleared but they were there and ready. Now I understand your trepidation as a manned pilot to have a flying robot off your left wing knowing that pilot is sitting in a box miles away and won't be hurt in you guys collide. I will tell you safety is the forefront of my mind every time I take off I treat my aircraft as though I am sitting in it. I know the technology is young and needs maturation but the FAA is on the right direction with integrating drones into the National Airspace. I don't expect to change your mind on this but just wanted to through my $0.02 at you. With new technology and strict regulations I think it can be safely integrated and drones have more to offer than just flying death machines that we are portrayed as on FOX News.

The Associated Press: Who will drones target? Who in the US will decide?

White House counterterror chief John Brennan has seized the lead in guiding the debate on which terror leaders will be targeted for drone attacks or raids, establishing a new procedure to vet both military and CIA targets. The move concentrates power over the use of lethal U.S. force outside war zones at the White House.

In describing Brennan's arrangement to The Associated Press, the officials provided the first detailed description of the military's previous review process that set a schedule for killing or capturing terror leaders around the Arab world and beyond. They spoke on condition of anonymity because U.S. officials are not allowed to publicly describe the classified targeting program.

One senior administration official argues that Brennan's move adds another layer of review that augments rather than detracts from the Pentagon's role. The official says that in fact there will be more people at the table making the decisions, including representatives from every agency involved in counterterrorism, before they are reviewed by senior officials and ultimately the president.

Iraq buys U.S. drones to protect oil --

The United States has agreed to sell unarmed surveillance drones to Iraq's navy as part of an effort to help protect that nation's oil exports amid growing tensions in the Persian Gulf and to strengthen U.S.-Iraqi ties.

"They understand the importance of the mission to protect its oil platforms," said Army Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen, who heads the U.S. Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq.

The office, which operates out of the U.S. Embassy and manages U.S. military sales programs in Iraq, confirmed the sale of drones but declined to say the model or number of drones that are part of the contract.

The drones will allow Iraq's military to keep a continuous watch over its oil terminals within Iraqi territorial waters of the Persian Gulf, where a significant portion of the world's oil originates and which Iran has occasionally threatened to blockade.

Will.I.Am attends climate change talk in helicoper - Telegraph

The Voice judge had been meeting climate change experts at Oxford University as part of a guest speaking role. Despite his environmentally-conscious stance on green issues, the Black Eyed Peas rapper, 37, chose to take a private helicopter to the venue. It is understood the journey, which is a 286 mile round-trip from London, used 71.5 gallons of fuel and released three-quarters of a ton of CO2 into the atmosphere. He even tweeted pictures of the so-called "hip.hop.copter" for fans to admire, after landing at the Oxford's University Parks. From there, the singer used a pedal cycle to travel the remaining few hundred yards to the Radcliffe Observatory Weather Centre.

There, he told an audience: “Climate change should be the thing that we are all worried and concerned about as humans on this planet, how we affect the planet, our consumption, and how we treat the place that we live in.”

According to the Daily Star newspaper, he spent an hour meeting with climate expert Myles Allen, before travelling to Taunton, Somerset, to carry the Olympic torch.

Professor Allen told the newspaper: “The irony didn’t escape everybody. But he’s committed to the issues and he’s written songs about it.”

Article 2(3) Sovereignty

Sovereignty over the territorial sea is excercized subject to this convention and to other rules of international law

The treaty 'allocates' rights

12 mile territorial sea

200 mile Exclusive Economic zone

200 mile continental shelff

These are ALL in place already by presidential proclimatin

Treaty creates the 'Internationl Seabed Authority

It can:

Tax through application fees (250k-1mm)

Royalties (2-7%)

Can require ALL technology used is is allowed to share that with whom it chooses

ISA runs this through their 'business', called "The Enterprise", it is in direct competition with anyone who wants to mine the sea bed.

Global Commons

The treaty defines Non territorial seas as:

"common heritage of mankind"

This hereby estabishes the principle that the UN has authority over the Global Commons

It is defined as: The atmosphere, outer space, the oceans beyond national juristiction and the related environment that supports human life

LOST would give the UN control over 70% of the earth's surface, as defined as a "Global Common"

There is no outright effective veto

Only certain actions can be blocked in sub councils, and only when three of the four largest nations concur
